I don’t know about you but I love to travel! Unfortunately, this is not a good time to travel. So I have been enjoying armchair travel by way of travel videos. Search your chosen movie provider for travel shows/guides/documentaries. Or google the internet. Many companies are now providing new platforms with a variety of options for traveling virtually.
I recently discovered the Google Travel + Leisure/arts and culture site to explore famous sites, UNESCO world heritage sites, and climate threatened, historical places at Google’s Street Level mapping! It’s like being there! More sites are being added each month!
This could be a history or culture project for children’s homeschooling:
- Select a site that has been mapped for street-level viewing by Google.
- Have the children research the history and culture of the people who live there.
- They can also research the cuisine and locate some authentic recipes. Google can find anything!
Perhaps they can prepare an authentic dinner from that culture. They can share what they learned. Then you can all watch that travel video after dinner! (Be sure to document the researched information, recipes, video, etc. so the children get full credit for their project!)
Where will you choose to go?
