COVID19 Phase II

 June 8, 2020

By  Dr. Joy Lasseter

Have you been feeling like a caged creature? Isolated, frustrated and limited? Trying to work from home with nobody to socialize with? Got cabin fever? Me too!  There are claw marks on my walls!! (Grin).

As many of you have already heard, Clark County, Washington was approved on Friday, June 5 to move to Phase 2 of reopening. For details, I found this website helpful: Clark.wa.gov/public-health/novel-coronavirus. I liked the first site on the list for: cases by zip code, chart showing time line of cases (major spike on May 22!). There is a description of all 4 Washington State phases and weekly Clark County updates on Fridays at noon. If you live in another county insert its name in the place of Clark. If you live in another state go to your state and county CDC links for information.

Before you break out of your cage and go wild, read the information on the above links.

Understand the allowances and restrictions for phase 2 in your area.

The virus has not gone away!

We need to be careful not to cause a spike and subsequently trigger another Stay-at-Home order. If we all co-operate we will move smoothly to Phase 3 in a few weeks and then on to Phase 4.

We must all be careful, mindful, alert and conscious about the continuing threat of this deadly virus.

Now on to the good news. We can now gather with 5 people outside our family group either indoors or outdoors. Socializing at last! How about a picnic in a local park (check to see which ones are open) or a day trip to a place nearby? Check with the town you wish to visit first. Different counties and states could have different rules. Organize a group walk with friends on a local trail. Take masks, hand sanitizers, tissues, gloves, water and snacks with you in case you decide to go to a store or restaurant for supplies or food. Be prepared like a good Scout!

I am emphasizing local because Clark County has relatively fewer cases than many of the surrounding counties and larger cities. Do the math. More cases = more risk of exposure!

So I am going to stay local for a few more weeks and watch the case numbers! I want to be healthy for Phases 3 and 4! And I am going to exercise more and spend time with a few friends at a time!
