When You Are Challenged, Celebrate Your Blessings!

 November 25, 2020

By  Dr. Joy Lasseter

During these trying times it may be difficult to find something to be grateful for.

But we can find something we have realized, developed or accomplished to appreciate during Thanksgiving this year.

This global experience is changing so many familiar aspects of our lives.

If we only focus on the past, we will not be able to enjoy the present.

In spite of the discomfort and inconvenience, we are coping, adapting and learning.

We need nurturing now more than ever before in this environment of chaos and change.

It is important to stay connected with your family, friends and loved ones!

Inconveniences are opportunities for learning, adapting and improving!

Here are some things I have learned. What can you add?

Spent more time with family and friends. (If you cannot be with them personally then schedule a face to face on Zoom, Face Talk or one of the many other

platforms.) Learned to be flexible. Became better at problem solving. Discovered I don’t need all the things I used to buy. Felt compassion for others less fortunate.

Learned new tech skills. Learned how to compromise. Developed more patience. Shared my resources with people who have lost their jobs due to Covid and lost

their homes because of the wildfires. Supported local food banks, pantries organizations, etc. Cleaned out my closets and gave gently used clothes to the displaced

and homeless through agencies that give directly to them, not ones that sell goods to the public. Learned how to work from home.

What did you learn? What are you grateful for?

Sharing gratitudes around the dining table while you enjoy a meal or on the phone with loved ones will shift the focus from lack to appreciation.

To keep this holiday uplifting, avoid any complaining, grumbling, etc. about the changes in our lifestyle.

Put a positive spin on this experience. Find the humor in the challenges. It’s Life. We have no control over it.

We can choose to be a leader in positive action and attitude or not. Everything ultimately is our choice.

Frustration, anger, complaining, etc. are emotions that lower our immune system response.

Be Happy, Have a strong immune system! That’s a sensible choice!!!
